With a financial services career dating back to 1974, John brings strategic leadership to Nicola Wealth, excelling in innovative problem-solving for clients. His expertise spans investment management, estate and financial planning, and business planning, focusing on wealth building, exit strategies, and shareholder agreements. 

Recently, John was honored with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and British Columbia CEO of the Year awards. He serves as the firm’s Chief Investment Officer, chairs the Nicola Wealth Board of Directors, and is a Founding Member of CALU. Actively supporting not-for-profit organizations like Covenant House, Pivot Law Society, and Bulembu International, John demonstrates his commitment beyond the business realm. View bio

Vanessa Flockton
Chief Advisory Officer



Vanessa is a member of the firm’s Executive team and is responsible for the strategic direction of the Advisory Services division. She oversees a team of over 150 wealth advisors, associates, and insurance specialists who are dedicated to providing professionals, entrepreneurs, foundations, and affluent families with integrated strategic financial planning and investment advice.

In addition to her leadership role, Vanessa is a wealth advisor providing strategic advice to professionals, business owners, and high-net-worth individuals. Beyond finance, Vanessa serves on the board of BC Children's Hospital. View bio

Bijal Patel
Chief Financial Officer & Head of Private Capital

Bijal draws on his innovative, entrepreneurial mindset and expertise to assess, advance, and improve business practices to drive the firm’s development and growth strategies.

Bringing over two decades of experience in the financial services industry, Bijal previously held roles at leading financial firms including SVP and CFO – Retail and Wealth Management, SVP Mortgages and Lending, and EVP Products at CIBC. Bijal holds a Master of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University, as well as a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University. View bio

Portfolio Manager, Public Assets

Ben joined Nicola Wealth in September 2012, bringing extensive experience from multi-billion-dollar investment management firms with a focus on global equity, GTAA, and market neutral funds.

Ben holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of British Columbia and carries the CAIA, CIM, and DMS designations. Additionally, he is a member of the Vancouver chapter of the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association. View bio

Managing Director of Real Estate

Mark brings over 40 years of experience to his leadership position at Nicola Wealth Real Estate. With a distinguished career in the real estate industry, Mark oversees the strategic direction and execution of Nicola Wealth's real estate initiatives.

Mark has extensive experience in sales and leasing of commercial real estate, helping to establish Avison Young Commerical Real Estate in Vancouver in 1994, and served as the Managing Director for 20 years. View bio
